- Sir Isaac Newton
repairGenes seeks to organize and systemize information about DNA repair genes and present the information in a helpful manner. The underlying data is taken from and categorized by the following resources:
"Swiss-Prot is a curated protein sequence database which strives to provide a high level of annotations (such as the description of the function of a protein, its domains structure, post-translational modifications, variants, etc.), a minimal level of redundancy and high level of integration with other databases"
"GOA is a project run by the European Bioinformatics Institute that aims to provide assignments of gene products to the Gene Ontology (GO) resource."
"In the first stage of this project, GO assignments have been applied to a data set representing the human proteome by a combination of electronic mappings and manual curation. Subsequently, GO assignments for all complete and incomplete proteomes that exist in Swiss-Prot and TrEMBL have been provided. GOA will be updated monthly in accordance with the latest data released by the primary data sources."
"The goal of the Gene Ontology (TM) (GO) Consortium is to produce a controlled vocabulary that can be applied to all organisms even as knowledge of gene and protein roles in cells is accumulating and changing."
"The NCBI taxonomy database contains the names of all organisms that are represented in the genetic databases with at least one nucleotide or protein sequence."
